Khalaf Law Firm owes its reputation to the integrity and ability of its team of lawyers and staff, initiated by its founding lawyers Melhem Bey Khalaf and Adel Khalaf.
Melhem Bey Khalaf, born in 1875 in the Lebanese village of Baskinta, was the first Lebanese to graduate with a law degree which he obtained during his studies in Istanbul, Turkey. Upon his return to Lebanon, he was in charge of the Department of the General Prosecution in Mount Lebanon and then later was appointed President of the First Instance Court in Koura. Melhem Bey Khalaf acquired the distinguished title of “BEY” during the regime of Sultan Mohammad Rachad in appreciation of his knowledge. He is the author of several works in criminal procedures.
In 1904, in collaboration with his brother Najib, also a lawyer, Melhem Bey Khalaf created the first legal magazine in Mount Lebanon in 1904 and continued to publish it until 1933 under the name of Majalat El Houkouk (The Law Journal).
Melhem Bey Khalaf established two law firms with his brother Najib and Benayot in Beirut and Zahle and he went on to resolve the major Lebanese and Syrian civil law suits of his time.
